What is Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose?
Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), also known as E466 food additive, is a water-soluble derivative of cellulose. It’s widely used as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in food, pharmaceuticals, and various industrial applications. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is produced by chemically modifying cellulose with chloroacetic acid in the presence of sodium hydroxide, which introduces carboxymethyl groups onto the cellulose backbone. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), carboxymethyl cellulose gum is approved to be used in food. It has also been evaluated by relevant regulatory authorities like JECFA, IFRA, ECHACHEM, NIST, and WHO.

CAS No.: 9004-32-4
According to the American Chemical Society, the CAS number of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose gum is 9004-32-4.
E number: E466
According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), sodium carboxymethyl cellulose gum is approved as a thickener (E466) in foods.

Wholesale and Buy Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose in Bulk
Buying sodium carboxymethyl cellulose wholesale requires careful consideration of quality, pricing, and supplier reliability. For businesses that rely on sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, understanding the wholesale market and buying process is crucial for cost-effective procurement and ensuring a stable supply chain. When you buy sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, you should determine the specific grade and purity required for your application and estimate your volume requirements. Successful wholesale procurement of carboxymethyl cellulose gum requires a thorough understanding of your specific needs, market dynamics, and supplier landscape. By developing a strategic approach to sodium carboxymethyl cellulose buying, businesses can secure a reliable supply of this crucial ingredient while optimizing costs and maintaining quality standards.
As a bulk sodium carboxymethyl cellulose manufacturer and supplier in China, we not only supply high-quality carboxymethyl cellulose gum to large food manufacturers and other companies worldwide. We also wholesale sodium carboxymethyl cellulose to small customers. Normally, they want to buy carboxymethyl cellulose gum in small quantities. To serve them, we can wholesale sodium carboxymethyl cellulose at bulk prices and provide a one-stop purchasing service in terms of their requirements.
Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose Price (USD/Kg)
Food Grade Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose Price (>=99.5% purity, Brookfield Viscosity 500-1000 mPa.s)
| Volume | Unit Price | Shipment |
| 50g | 8 USD | Express |
| 500g | 24 USD | Express |
| 1Kg | 38 USD /Kg | Express |
| 20Kg | 25% cheaper | Express |
| 100Kg-Above | negotiable | Express / Sea |
Understanding the full cost structure of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, including base price, shipping, and associated fees, is crucial for effective procurement. While the base price is important, factors like quality, reliability, and total delivered cost should guide purchasing decisions. By considering all these elements, businesses can optimize their carboxymethyl cellulose sourcing strategy and ensure the best value for their specific needs.
Furthermore, the above price quotations of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose E466, especially for small orders, do not include the express shipping fee. The reason is that the shipment cost of carboxymethyl cellulose gum may exceed the value of the sample. However, the bulk wholesale prices of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose gum will be much lower than those of small orders. Please contact us for more details.

Carboxymethyl Cellulose Gum Used in Food
A High-Stretching Yogurt Drink – Formulation by Weight
The specific preparation steps are as follows:
Step 1: Add water to raw milk to adjust the milk protein content to 3.0% and obtain mixed milk. Preheat the mixed milk to 65°C, homogenize (primary pressure 40MPa.s, secondary pressure 160MPa.s, homogenization temperature 65°C), sterilize it (95°C sterilization, sterilization time 5min), and then cool it. After that, add 0.6‰ starter to ferment it. When the acidity reaches 110°T, demulsify it (stirring speed 300 rpm, time 60s), and then cool it to 10°C to obtain a fermented milk base.
The starter is composed of thermophilic streptococci and bulgaricus lactobacillus in a mass ratio of 1:1.
Step 2: Mix 28kg of white sugar, 0.30kg of high-intensity sweetener, 7kg of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and 2kg of guar gum, and then put them into 22.7kg of water at 70℃ for dissolution. After the dissolution is uniform, cool it to below 30℃ to obtain a sugar-gum mixture, wherein the high-intensity sweetener is a 3:1 compound of sucralose and acesulfame potassium.
Step 3: Mix 40kg of fermented milk base and 60kg of sugar-gum mixture, add citric acid to adjust the acidity to 80°T, then heat it to 60℃ and homogenize, and finally sterilize it at 120 °C for 15 s. Cool the sterilized material to below 20℃ to obtain a yogurt drink with high stringiness.
In conclusion, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose E466 is a versatile ingredient used across various industries, from food and pharmaceuticals to oil drilling and textiles. As a bulk sodium carboxymethyl cellulose manufacturer and supplier in China, Sinofi sells different grades of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose gum at wholesale prices to large manufacturers and small customers worldwide.
